Well here we are. In October. Writing about stuff from March. One of the things we ended up doing on our drive to Utah (and have wanted to do for years) is visit White Sands National Park!

This is a southwest bucket list and general national park bucket list topper, for sure. I would say it’s on most peoples whether they know it or not and if it’s not on yours yet, it will be now!

Bandelier National Monument: Hike To These Awesome Ruins On The Main Loop Trail (+ The Alcove Ruin!)

Way back in March on our trip out to Utah for the summer, we traveled through New Mexico. You may remember having seen a post a couple of months ago about the Falls Trail in Bandelier National Monument, well this one is all about the main draw to the park: the ruins on the main loop trail. I was super excited about visiting Bandelier just … Continue reading Bandelier National Monument: Hike To These Awesome Ruins On The Main Loop Trail (+ The Alcove Ruin!)

One of the things I was most excited to do in New Mexico was to visit Santa Fe and Bandelier National Monument.  The only thing I actually knew about it was the ruins, so we had to do that but once we got there we found out about the Falls Trail, which is one of the coolest other trails in the park, so of course, we had to do it, too.

New Mexico is hot.  Like, way hotter than I expected.  Most of the road trip was around the 80’s temperature wise, but not New Mexico.  It was all right around 100.  After the hot air balloon ride in Albuquerque, we told one of the guys on the balloon team we were going to Roswell and he asked why.  We weren’t really sure.  Aliens I guess?  Then he suggested Carlsbad Caverns because it was close.  So we did it, we went there.  Porque no?

My fingers were probably crossed for good weather from the moment we booked our hot air balloon flight.  I’m talking a week of crossed fingers. This is serious business.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved hot air balloons and wanted to ride in one.  When we started planning the southwest road trip, it was one of the first things I looked up.  I then crossed my fingers it would be in my budget.  I did a lot of finger-crossing for this adventure.

Turns out it was one of the best things to do in Albuquerque and it was in my budget!  Can’t beat that.  If this isn’t already on your bucket list, it absolutely should be!
