I didn’t know about the Dixie National Forest until I was in it.  This happens to me a lot.  On our way to Bryce Canyon we took Scenic Byway 12 through the Dixie forest and Grand Staircase Escalante.  There were scenic view areas overlooking Capitol Reef and the canyons and forest below.

The forest is full of pine and aspen trees, a refreshing break from the red of the desert.  I realized how much I love aspen trees and could have taken a thousand more pictures of them.  One area was cleared out in a forest fire sometime ago.  The trunks are all that are left making for a sort of creepy but still super awesome landscape.

There are tons of camping areas in the forest and all kinds of hiking trails I’m sure.  I will definitely be back next year to explore more of the forest.  I don’t think I could stay away from the winding roads and sprawling views.

Have you been to the Dixie National Forest?  What did you do there?  What did you think of it?
