I love the desert for a lot of reasons.
I love it because of slot canyons.
Because of the waving sandstone.
And because of the feel of the walls.
Because of the arches and bridges.
Because of the stories.
And because of the feeling of being under something so crazy.
Because of this lake.
Because of its secrets like this.
And because a place like this exists in the middle of the relentless desert.
Because of the lizards.
Because they’re not all afraid of people.
And because they do push ups for me.
Because of the Cairns.
Because they are inviting.
And because you can be creative with them.
Because of petroglyphs.
Because they are in the most unbelievable places.
And because they tell a story, even if I don’t know what it is.
Because of the details; the walls that look like bread rolls.
Because of the faces.
And because of things like this.
Because of places like this.
Because this would be a heck of a place to lose a cow.
And because it feels otherworldly.
Because of these mountains.
Because they house one of the three herds of bison in the US.
And because they are practically in my backyard.
Because of native ruins.
Because they are so easy to explore.
And because they offer views like this.
Because a park like this exists.
Because it’s like a playground for grown ups.
And because it has caves you can climb to.
Because you can get away from the heat.
Because it’s not all just cactus.
And because these are more common than you think.
Because of these holes everywhere.
Because of walls like this.
And because of the shades of red.
Because of this road.
Because this is even closer to being my backyard.
And because this was the first place I explored.
What place do you love and why?
