Ok, this isn’t literally just pictures of New York, but don’t expect anything helpful from this.  If you’re looking for something informative, head elsewhere.  You won’t find it here.  I would suggest some of these posts or this East Cost road trip plan.  This post will be more of a small collection of pictures from my trip to New York in high school, that I don’t mention very often, and a few little fun things I remember.

The Korean Restaurant

A bunch of us when to a Korean Restaurant not too far from the Empire State Building for dinner one night.  I’ve mentioned on here I’m not a fan of Asian food, but I was even less of a fan as a sophomore in high school.

I don’t remember what I got, but I do know that I tried a piece of octopus and it wasn’t horrible.  I also got grape juice I think, or pear, I know I tried both, and it had whole peeled grapes in it.  I drank one through a straw, somehow.  The pear juice also had chunks of pear in it.

Pinkberry

I remember seeing Pinkberry on an episode of the Hills and I thought “I need to go there!”  Then, not too far from the Korean restaurant, was a Pinkberry!  We obviously had to go.

In case you din’t know, it’s a fro-yo shop with I think mostly cereal add-ins.  There might be other things, but we just got cereal.  I think I just got vanilla with fruity pebbles and it was delicious.  Someone else got coffee with Captain Crunch and I would not recommend it.

Canal Street

I feel like I was super excited to go here, but I don’t really know why.  Pretty much everyone on the trip bought a knock-off Prada or Dolce and Gabanna purse.  What a steal!  Going back now, I might wander around there for pictures or something, but I don’t think I’d buy much.

Little Italy, or the best manicotti ever

After wandering around Canal Street, a few of us went to a cute little Italian restaurant in Little Italy.  I got the manicotti and it was soooo good.  I’ve tried it a few times since then and it hasn’t been even close to that.  It’s always dry, but that place had it perfect.

NKOTB

I think it was our first morning in New York after driving straight from Wisconsin.  We headed to the Today Show filming (I’m pretty sure that’s what it was) and saw New Kids On The Block performing.  I had no idea who they were then, really, but It was still exciting, I suppose.

Empire State Building

I don’t remember all that much about this, other than the ride up in the elevator, the gift shop, and that it was extremely windy outside.  We were there in early March I think, so it was wintery and cold already, but up on the observation deck/floor, it was very windy making it even colder.

Ellis Island

It was another chilly day, but not really horrible.  I remember a lot of pigeons (below) where we were waiting to leave from.  The ferry ride over was fun.  I remember looking at the lists of names of people that came over.  I remember the creepy Statue of Liberty mask in the gift shop.  And I remember the fudge.

McDonalds

I don’t think we actually ate at McDonalds here, but it was the first time I ever saw one that is multiple floors and others that deliver.  I would later encounter another McDonalds in Taipei that was two floors and all kinds of fast food that delivered in Antigua, Guatemala.
