**Due to water levels, Cathedral in the Desert may not be totally or easily accesible. If you can get to it, it will probably look very different than these pictures.**

This wasn’t my first time in Cathedral in the Desert, but it was a totally different experience from the first time.  Cathedral in the Desert is in the Escalante River arm of Lake Powell, Clear Creek Canyon specifically.

It’s one of those places on the lake you just have to see.  It’s easy to get to and easy to find, which makes it even better to visit.

Hello Wisconsin! Why It’s Actually Pretty Cool

When you think road trip, you probably don’t think Wisconsin.  Or anywhere in the Midwest, really.  I mean, I don’t.  I’m not saying it’s the ultimate road trip destination, either, but it’s actually a lot cooler than most people think.

My Favorite Travel Planning Resources

I’ve recently realized I’ve never really gotten into how I plan my trips, which I get really into, by the way.  Even if I am thinking about going somewhere, I will sit and plan it all out.  Just because.  Weird, right?  Does anyone else do that?  Anyone?  It can seem intimidating at first, which it might be, but with a few resources under your belt that you know of, that can help get things going in the right direction.  I’ve gotten my planning down pretty good at this point, so, let’s get to it!

Why I Travel Carry-On Only

On my first few international trips, Germany, New Zealand, and Ecuador, I brought along a giant suitcase that I probably could have fit in myself full of way too much stuff that I never used.  It wasn’t so terrible on those trips because I didn’t really have to carry the suitcase around myself.

Once I would need to start carrying everything myself though, I knew I wanted to travel lighter and with a small backpack and I became a carry-on traveler.  While I love the backpack I have, they don’t make it anymore.  I think to make it work and not hate it, you’ve got to find the best backpack for carry-on travel.

As you all know, or in case you don’t, I love visiting and exploring the national parks.  There are some that get tons of love and are some of the most famous national parks like Yellowstone, Zion, and the Grand Canyon, but I want to share a little bit about some of the more overlooked national parks I’ve been to over the last year and a half.

Critters of Congaree National Park

It was my first time in South Carolina and my first national park east of the Mississippi, both very exciting things.  I haven’t seen all that much wildlife in parks, Wyoming in the winter aside because I lived there and it was over months.  I really didn’t see much in Congaree either, as far as mammals and reptiles go, but I did see tons of bugs and let me tell you, I got just as excited about the first spider as the last.

Every now and then I go back through old trip pictures and find some that I love but never did anything with.  I’ve recently done it with Slovenia and Taiwan and I’ve slowly been going through Central America, too, but those aren’t up yet.  It’s Japan’s turn now and some of these you may have already seen, others not.

Hiking in Congaree National Park

I loved Congaree National Park.  I may have even put it in my top five.  (Update 2020: It’s not in my top five, but I do like it.)  That’s a tough list to make, but I think it’s up there.  I loved seeing all the bugs and other critters.  I love the cypress trees with their knobby knees.  I loved the boardwalk trail.  All of it!  We only spent a few hours there on our way up to Asheville, but it was an awesome few hours and I’d love to go back.

Planning a Central America solo trip?

When you think of going on your first solo trip, you probably think of South East Asia because that’s where like, everyone goes.  I think I briefly thought of going there but decided against it for that reason.

Then I found Central America.  I’m not saying it’s off the beaten path or anything, there were tons of backpackers everywhere, I just think it’s less common for first solo trips.  I think.

The Best Of The Fall Colors From Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Ahh, I finally have my pictures from the Smokies ready and I’ve been so excited to share them, and there’s a lot of them, so I decided to share the best of the fall colors all in one post.  Don’t worry, you’ll see them again, I just wanted to share these together.  After all, it is why we went up to the Carolinas and Tennessee!

Fun National Park Facts

It’s been a goal now for the last couple years to visit five new national parks a year.  So far, it’s gone well!  And in total, I’ve been to 19 out of 59.  Not too shabby.  I’ve also been a lot more into learning about the parks.  The Switchback Kids podcast is one of my new favorite things and I always want to listen to them on our way to the parks.  I also get excited listening to the ones about the parks I’ve been to.

What To Pack For A Fall Road Trip In The USA

You’ve probably noticed with the last few posts that I just went on a little southeast US road trip.  We had no idea how long we were going to be gone, but it ended up being 9 days.  I think.  I knew we were passing through South Carolina to go to Congaree national park, spending most of the time in North Carolina, and stopping in Savannah on the way home if we had time.  I figured maybe five days when we left, but it then I thought maybe longer.
