Over my last winter in Utah, technically Arizona, I wanted to do as much as I possibly could. While we didn’t make to all five Utah national parks, we did make it to three. I already have posts about Arches in winter and Canyonlands in winter and now that I finished my Zion hiking posts, it’s time for one all about Zion in winter.

On my first Utah road trip in 2015, we stopped at Zion and I hiked to the Emerald Pools with my friend Danny. I know we had fun but, looking back, I don’t know if I was like, blown away it at all. I don’t think I was disappointed by it either though.

One of the things I knew I had to do on our winter trip to Zion was hike the short Petroglyph Canyon Trail because I love rock art and will probably try to see it anywhere if I know it’s there. I just love it.

**Hidden Canyon is closed indefinitely due to rockfall (as of August 2022)**

Last year I got the National Geographic Secrets of the National Parks book.  I didn’t really look through it until I was home recently.  When I was looking through it to get ready for our trip to Zion, I saw a hike I hadn’t heard of before.  That hike was Hidden Canyon.  Once I read about it, I knew I needed to do it.

Over the last few years, I’ve visited Zion National Park quite a few times.  I’ve been to the main area of the park and down Kolob Terrace Road, but I hadn’t been to Kolob Canyons yet.  I didn’t actually realize it existed until a few months ago.  Crazy, right?

As you know, I was just in Wisconsin for about a month for the holidays.  I had all these plans to do all kinds of fun stuff in the area and then it was freezing cold, like below zero the majority of our time there.  So all those cool things I wanted to do have to wait for the next trip back.
