It was almost time for us to leave Florida, but we had to do one thing before we left: go to the beach.  We decided to go to Big Talbot State Park in Jacksonville, Florida.  It was a little cloudy when we left, but we held out hope for it to brighten (and warm) up.  It didn’t, but we didn’t let that stop us.

We probably spent less than two hours here because it was so cold.  It was also windy, which didn’t help.  We got to the little parking area and headed down the trail to the beach.  The easiest beach access is from the Shoreline Trail at the Bluffs Access.

All we did while we were here was walk along the beach, admiring the little crabs, trying not to freeze in the wind.  I found some shells, which as you may know, I always pick up.  Like, no matter what.  I can’t help it.  We saw some little birds and lots of driftwood along the shore.

There isn’t much in terms of hiking in Big Talbot, but a walk along the beach is enjoyable and you can go fishing in the park.  You can do this at the George Crady Bridge Fishing Pier, which is $2 per person.

Overall, it’s a cool state park to wander around.  I would love to go back when the weather is better.  I would also love to visit neighboring Little Talbot State Park.  Someday!

Tips for visiting Big Talbot State Park:

• The park is open from 8AM until sunset 365 days of the year.
• The entrance fee is $3 per vehicle.
• You can go fishing here at the George Crady Bridge Fishing Pier and the entrance for that is $2 per person.
• This is probably a better park to visit in the warmer months, but even in November, it was nice to walk along the beach.  Just be prepared for it to be cold if it’s not sunny.
