What countries are in Central America?
There are seven countries in Central America:
- Belize
- Guatemala
- El Salvador
- Honduras
- Nicaragua
- Costa Rica
- Panama

What is the smallest country in Central America?
El Salvador is the smallest country in Central America at 8,124 mi² and Belize is a close second at 8,867 mi².

What is the biggest country in Central America?
I was expecting Guatemala to be the biggest, but Nicaragua is actually the biggest country in Central America at 50,337 mi². Here are the other country sizes:
- Honduras 43,543 mi²
- Guatemala 42,042 mi²
- Panama 29,157 mi²
- Costa Rica 19,760 mi²

What language is spoken in Central America?
Spanish is the main language spoken in Central America but English is the official language of Belize. Here are some of the other common languages in Central America (but there are more!):
- Mayan
- Miskito
- Garifuna
- Kriol
- Mekatelyu

Where is Central America?
Central America is the section of land containing the countries listed above between North and South America, hence the name.
Central America is part of North America, but it is it’s own subregion in the North American continent.

Is Mexico is Central America?
Nope! Although it is common for Central America backpacking trips to start or end somewhere in Mexico. I started my trip in Cancun.

Is Ecuador in Central America?
Nope! Ecuador is in South America, right on the equator, surrounded by Colombia to the north and Peru to the south.

Is Cuba in Central America?
Nope! Cuba is in the Caribbean, about 70 miles from the Florida Keys, south of the Bahamas, and north of the Cayman Islands and Jamaica, with Haiti and Turks and Caicos to the east.

Is Dominican Republic in Central America?
Nope! Dominican republic is also in the Caribbean and is right next to Haiti (on the same island) with Puerto Rico to the east.

Does Central America exist?
Yes, Central America is real and it still exists. It is not considered its own continent though.
