I’ve been going through drafts and pictures and have found a treasure trove of unshared Florida hikes (oops!), today’s included.
The trail at Clyde Butcher’s Big Cypress Gallery (he also has one in Venice) is a great short trail on the Tamiami trail in the heart of Big Cypress.

And when I say short, I mean short. On our way down to Everglades National Park on the last trip to the area we actually stopped here for a meet and greet with Clyde!
I can’t remember if we did this trail after that or made a separate stop once we were back in this area after Everglades.

Either way, I would definitely recommend stopping into the gallery before or after doing the hike.
His photography is beautiful and will give you a new appreciation of the area.

Be sure to take a peek in the water to the right of the gallery to see if there is any wildlife hanging out. We didn’t see any but it’s still beautiful.
The trail is a narrowish packed dirt/gravel trail through the woods behind the gallery.

There isn’t any super notable scenery of landmarks but it’s a beautiful trail anyway.
I had no idea what to expect from this trail. I though there might be water on it or a wet section but there wasn’t.

It was also a lot shorter than I expected, and if I had to guess, I would put it around a quarter mile.
It is a loop, depositing you in the backyard area of the gallery.

We did see some lovely plants along the way, and a lot of cool vines on trees.
No wildlife but I didn’t really expect to see any back there, especially once I saw what kind of trail it was.

I was a little worried it would be a water trail since they do offer guided swamp walks here, but it’s all dry.
There isn’t a whole lot to say about this trail but I definitely recommend it if you’re passing through and have a spare 15-20 minutes.

I really liked this trail but it’s not the best or my favorite trail in the area.
But with a mission to do as many hikes in Big Cypress as I can, I obviously had to do this one and would say it’s worth checking out!

Where is Clyde Butcher’s Big Cypress gallery?
Clyde Butcher’s Big Cypress Gallery is on Highway 41 (the Tamiami Trail) between Everglades City and Miami.
It’s about two minutes from the Oasis Visitor Center, 20 minutes from Shark Valley, 30 minutes from Everglades City, and almost 1.5 hours from Homestead.
The Big Cypress Gallery Trail is just outside the back of the gallery and anyone can do it. There is no fee.

How long is the trail at the gallery?
I’m not sure exactly how long the trail is, I can’t find a distance and I didn’t track it when we were there.
I would be shocked if it was more than 0.5 miles, more likely closer to 0.25 miles. It’s a very short loop just behind the gallery.

Is the gallery trail hard?
Nope! It’s a short flat trail in the woods. It can be rooty but that’s the most difficult aspect.

Is the trail at Clyde Butcher’s gallery in Big Cypress worth doing?
If you’re already making the stop and have a spare 15 minutes, I would definitely say yes!
If you’re passing through and just want another hike in the area, yes! It’s not the best hike ever but I did like it and it is really short.
