Waaaay back in 2012 when I went to New Zealand, one of the things that we did was the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks Walk.  I wish that I actually wrote something about it back then, but I didn’t, so here we are.  Eight years later.

Is It Worth Visiting The Moeraki Boulders Of Otago?

One of the more memorable roadside stops from my time in New Zealand was the Moeraki Boulders.  Maybe it’s because it’s hard to forget perfectly round boulders on a beach or because this actually had a name, unlike a lot of the waterfalls and things wee saw.  I mean, they probably had names, but I don’t know them.  Well, these boulders are almost one of a kind and a fun little stop on your way to or from Dunedin.  If you want a relaxing beach near Dunedin, visit Tomahawk Beach.

Our very first stop in New Zealand that wasn’t our hotel was Tomahawk Beach in Dunedin.  We got all checked in before heading to the beach for our first taste of New Zealand.  On our way to the beach, we stopped to see some Gum trees with Lupines underneath.  I also remember seeing trees that looked like they were permanently blowing in the wind, which was pretty cool.  You can book the hotel we stayed at here (it was super nice.)

**It sounds like at the time of writing (11/3/19) the road in is closed from a landslide and it is closed indefinitely.  I would ask around wherever you are before making the trip out here, so a helicopter visit may be the only option right now.**

It’s too hard to choose one favorite thing that I did in New Zealand.  I always say Tasman Glacier and Tasman Valley, but it was all so good!  Like, there was literally nothing bad.  And while we didn’t get to hike on Fox Glacier, we did get to do the Fox Glacier Terminal Face walk.  Aka we got to walk to the end of the glacier and it may not sound like the coolest, it’s still totally worth doing, even if it’s cloudy.  If it’s rainy though, they may close it for the day.  You can always check the daily update.  And sometimes the road can be washed out from landslides or rockfall, so it may be closed because of that as well.

45 Pictures That Have Me Dreaming Of A New Zealand Road Trip

While I was on my roll of going through old pictures, I went through my New Zealand ones and decided it’s time to share some.  I’ll be updating old posts with more helpful information and pictures, but some just don’t have a place in a post, so they’re here.

These are from my two weeks on the South Island of New Zealand way back in like, 2011 or 2012, I can’t remember.  You’ll see Fox Glacier, Tasman Valley, Arrowtown, Dunedin, Gum Trees, Tomahawk Beach, Elephant Rocks, Blue Pools, Mount Cook, Moeraki Boulders, Pancake Rocks, and so much more that I don’t remember where it was.

One of my favorite things we did in New Zealand was the Blue Lakes and Tasman Glacier walks.  I didn’t know what it was called at the time, just that we were in Tasman Valley and I liked it a lot.
