While I was probably looking forward to time on a beach the most on our South Florida road trip, I was also pretty excited about finally visiting Everglades National Park.  I knew we weren’t doing any kind of boat tour or renting kayaks at all, so it was going to be a visit on foot.

Capitol Reef might be my favorite national park in Utah.  It’s the one I’ve lived the closest to making it the easiest for me to explore and makes for a great weekend trip in Utah.

While it has a ton of awesome hikes, there are so many cool things to do that involve little to no hiking.  Whether you can’t hike or just don’t like it, you should still visit Capitol Reef.  You’ll still be able to see plenty of the park.

On our South Florida road trip, we knew we would be spending most of our time in the Everglades and Big Cypress, but we also wanted to stop see Biscayne National Park

We weren’t doing any boat tours but still wanted to see what the park was like on land.  I knew it would be a quick visit, but was still pretty excited.

Everything You Need To Know About The Capitol Reef Orchards

Capitol Reef is definitely the most underrated national park in Utah.  It gets overlooked on road trips through the area (guilty) for the much more popular Arches and Zion

While I love the hiking of Capitol Reef and how close it is to where I live in the summer, I really, really love picking fruit in the orchards and it makes a weekend trip to Torrey that much better.

I’ve driven past the trailhead for Headquarters Canyon I don’t know how many times over the last three summers without doing the hike.  Well, I finally hiked Headquarters Canyon and it was so cool.  Plus, there was a Geocache tucked way back in there giving me even more reason to want to see it.

The Best Bad National Park Reviews I Could Find

So, something you may not know about me is that I LOVE reading bad reviews.  Restaurant, store, business, parks, towns, I love them all.  This winter I realized that you could review the national parks.  Why I never thought you could before, I don’t know.  Well, I started reading the bad reviews and some of them had me cracking up.  I promptly forgot about this … Continue reading The Best Bad National Park Reviews I Could Find

How I went two years without knowing about this hike and these petroglyphs is beyond me.  The 100 Hands Pictograph hike in Escalante is a great, short hike if you’re just passing through the park.   It’s right along the main road so you don’t have to make the perilous journey down Hole in the Rock Road.

Best National Parks To Visit In The Winter

Lately, I’ve been thinking more about this winter, where I’ll be, what I’ll be doing, all that good stuff.  I’ve especially been dreaming about the Tetons in the winter.  I love it.

I don’t love winter, but nothing beats the Tetons under eight feet of snow with moose lounging around and an expensive purple juice.  But this post isn’t all about the Tetons, it’s all about the best national parks to visit in winter.

This isn’t going to be the ultimate packing list with literally everything you should bring on a national park road trip where you’ll be doing a lot of camping.

It’s geared more towards the gear (hah) that you’ll want to have with you.  I will include some clothing, but I’m leaving the basics (shirts, pants, shorts, underwear) up to you.

How To Avoid Crowds In The National Parks

One thing that makes a national park experience less fun is fighting the crowds on and off trails.  I mean really, who likes waiting in line just to get into the park for two hours?

Or waiting in a line on a hiking trail?  Or looking for a parking spot for half an hour?  No one.  That’s who.  Well, good thing you’re here because I’m going to share with you the best ways to avoid the crowds in national parks.

Upper Lower Muley Twist Adventures

If that title doesn’t confuse you, cool.  If it does, here’s what I mean.  Lower Muley Twist is like, a 15-mile hike in Capitol Reef National Park.  The trailhead is at the top of the Burr Trail switchbacks and the end is at the bottom at least a mile away.  We started at the trailhead, at the top (upper, get it?) and went in from … Continue reading Upper Lower Muley Twist Adventures
