You know I love Taiwan. And if you didn’t, well I love Taiwan. I think about going back ALL THE TIME and figured making a Taiwan bucket list would help get me even more excited to go back, not that I needed much motivation for that.

I broke it down into a Taipei bucket list which includes some places that aren’t in the city, but are close to it, within an hour or so of the city so you could easily visit them if you just had one or two days in Taipei. They’re also great options for a Taipei day trip. I also made a general Taiwan bucket list section which is where you’ll find everything further away from Taipei.

While it’s been a few years since I hiked to Teapot Mountain in Taiwan, I decided to finally write about it.  Teapot Mountain is the perfect day trip from Taipei if you want to get outside without going too far.

If you want to hike in Taipei, try Elephant Mountain or Fairy Footprint.  But, back to Teapot Mountain.  This is a moderate to strenuous hike in Jinguashi, about an hour from Taipei.

Elephant Mountain And Fairy Footprint: Two Best Hikes In Taipei

There are a few hikes in Taipei that offer great views of Taipei 101 and the city below.  They are easy and perfect to watch the sunset before heading over to one of the night markets.

The Elephant Mountain hike and Fairy Footprint Hike are two of those.  Elephant Mountain is one of the most popular hikes in Taipei while Fairy Footprint recieves a lot less foot traffic.  Both are worth doing and a great way to end a day around the city.

Taipei is in the perfect location.  It’s centrally located in Northern Taiwan making it super easy to base yourself there to take day trips from Taipei to the surrounding cities and towns.  Whether you want to hike, visit a night market, wander through old streets, or all three, there are tons of easy day trips from Taipei.

You can even do all three in one day if that’s all you have, it’s just deciding which that is the hard part.  If you’ve only got 5 days in Taiwan, this can help you narrow down what to do with your limited time.

While I may have had an entire month in Taiwan and almost three weeks in Taipei, I met a lot of people that only had one to four days there.  I met a few people that were in Taipei on long layovers and had two of those myself.  If you have more time and want to see a lot more of Taiwan, here is a great three-week itinerary and if you’re even shorter on time, this ten-day Taiwan adventure itinerary is perfect.

Like Slovenia, I realized I had a ton of pictures from Taiwan that I never shared.  Or probably even edited.  Sometimes I like to go back and look at pictures from past trips because I’ll see some and think why didn’t I do anything with this yet?  So, these are those pictures.  The ones I never did anything with or didn’t have anything to write about them or didn’t know what they were.  A little collection of the odd ones out.

It’s no secret that I love Taiwan, or that I didn’t love it at all the first two weeks I was there.  I spent a month in Taiwan making my way around the little island, spending most of my time in Taipei.  I ended up going back between Japan and the Philippines and on my way home, which was awesome since I was there long enough to actually spend time in the city.  It may have been a rough start, but I ended up loving it and it’s pretty close to the top of the list of places I’d love to go back to, here’s why.

The Perfect Packing List For Taiwan And Japan In The Winter

Before I left for Taiwan, I had no idea what to bring.  I had no idea what the weather was going to be like.  Hot and cold.  Helpful, right?

I also didn’t know I was going to Japan until I was there, which didn’t help either.  One last thing to make it difficult, I was going to the Philippines after, so I needed clothes for pretty much all weather.

What I Didn’t Totally Love About Taiwan

I’ve mentioned before both that I love Taiwan, but I really didn’t at all for a while either.  I shared what I love about Taiwan, now, since I like to keep things real here, I’m going to share what I didn’t love as much.

I would also like to note that these are pretty much all personal things that I didn’t like or found annoying, and some are just silly little things that aren’t actually bad but more funny.  It was literally nothing about Taiwan itself.  I actually love Taiwan and these are all just part of the experience.  Taiwan is one place I’m actually dying to go back to.

Everything You Need To Know To Go To The Pingxi Lantern Festival

The Pingxi Lantern Festival is one of the coolest ways to celebrate Chinese New Year in Taipei if not all of Taiwan.  I don’t know what goes on in the rest of Taiwan, so that’s why I’m so confident in that statement.  If you know of something else that’s super awesome, let me know!  It just so happened that I booked my five weeks in Taiwan to coincide with the Pingxi Lantern Festival.  I didn’t even know it existed when I was planning my trip until shortly before I got to Taiwan.
