The first time I drove down Burr Trail, I saw the trailhead for Halls Creek Overlook.  I told myself I would do that before I left.  Well, I didn’t.  I did hike to a different overlook though, so I say it still counts.  And to this day, I’ve been to three different spots overlooking Halls Creek and each is as wonderful as the other.

This place gives me the creeps.  That’s what I’m starting with.  Makes you want to go there, right?  Yeah, totally. . .

This was my first time there, I eventually went back, but that’s for later.  This time I just knew I wanted to go the direction away from Goblin Valley, so straight instead of turning towards it.  I had no idea what was back there, but I needed to find out.  Turns out there are some pictographs and some pretty cool canyons and views.

It was a coolish morning, as coolish as the desert can be in May, and I was off to explore Pedestal Alley on Burr Trail.  There is parking on the left side of the road across from the trailhead, which is marked with a sign, on the right.  

The trail basically follows a wash and is also marked with cairns, which are more helpful once you’re on the open rock.  The trail follows the wash most of the time, but occasionally it goes up onto the sand through the plants.  If you want, you can just follow the wash instead of the cairns.
