LOOKING FOR THE BEST HIKES NEAR JACKSON LAKE?

At the end of July, we went on a road trip up to the Tetons and Yellowstone.  Day one was spent at Jenny Lake and hiking to Hidden Falls, Jackson Lake was day two, followed by a day and a half in Yellowstone.  This was my first time in this area and I loved it!  I loved it so much I went to work there that winter.

I like to think I’ve done my fair share of National Park exploring over the last year.  Some parks I did hiking, others I just had time to drive through.  Today, though, I’m sharing my favorite hikes in National Parks around the US.

Return to Rocky Mountain National Park

I went back to Rocky Mountain National Park!  And this time I knew what to expect.  It was the end of November, and we were on our way back to Utah, then Wyoming for the winter.  The Rockies were our last exciting stop before starting work again.  We set off from Fort Collins with mountains on our mind.

The Other Side of Zion: Kolob Terrace Road

On our way to Vegas we had a couple extra days before we really needed to be there.  We decided to explore Zion a bit.  This was my third time there, but I still haven’t done Angels Landing or The Narrows.  Our plan was to do at least one of those.  We got there, mid September, and it was SO busy, we would have had to park outside of the park and take a shuttle in.  We just weren’t having it.

LOOKING TO HIKE TO HICKMAN BRIDGE AT CAPITOL REEF?

After driving through Capitol Reef a couple times and exploring the south end a little bit, it was time for a proper visit to the scenic road in the north.

There is the highway that passes through the park and the 10-mile (one way) scenic drive near the visitor center taking you further into the park.

Lower Muley Twist Adventures In Capitol Reef

It was my birthday and I wanted to go somewhere.  After rounding up some new friends, we set off for Capitol Reef with, well, no plan.  After following Burr Trail to the end of the paved section, we went left to get to Capitol Reef.  The first part of it is really pretty, but instead of going straight to follow Notom Road, we went left to continue up the switchbacks on Burr.

For some reason, I insisted on doing the Delicate Arch hike.

“It’s only, like, three miles I said.”

“It won’t be that bad.”  HA!  Good one, me.  Good one.

Straight Up Land in Zion National Park

The other day, I realized in my posts about the road trip, in order, I forgot about Zion.  Oops!  I’m not even sure how I forgot about it.  It was the third National Park we visited out of five.  It wasn’t my favorite.  You already know Arches was probably my favorite with Bryce Canyon at a close second.

Carlsbad Caverns: A Cool Descent

New Mexico is hot.  Like, way hotter than I expected.  Most of the road trip was around the 80’s temperature wise, but not New Mexico.  It was all right around 100.  After the hot air balloon ride in Albuquerque, we told one of the guys on the balloon team we were going to Roswell and he asked why.  We weren’t really sure.  Aliens I guess?  Then he suggested Carlsbad Caverns because it was close.  So we did it, we went there.  Porque no?
