My Post

Admittedly, Spain isn’t the top of my bucket list.  However, after reading a few books set in Spain, I know it will crawl its way up my list.  I’ve compiled this list of Spain travel books, Spain memoirs, novels set in Spain, Spanish non-fiction, and more.

Basically, everything you could look for in books about Spain.  So grab a pot of coffee, sit back, and get that Kindle out (or however you read, no judgment here) and get reading!

Germany 8 Years Later

Aufwachen kinder!  Wir sind in die Alpen!

As you know, Germany was my first trip abroad.  I went with my German class my senior year of high school for two weeks.  I stayed with a family for five days I think, maybe six, and we traveled around Bavaria the rest of the time.  We went to Munich, Rothenberg, Garmisch, and Ravensburg.

I learned a few things while I was there, like try all the candy, and was a little more prepared for future trips abroad.  I sort of knew what to expect, but didn’t at the same time.  I decided to share some thoughts on my first trip, eight years later.

I don’t talk about it all that much on here because I’ve never had the motivation to go back to find good pictures from my trip.  It was also eight years ago, so it’s not super fresh in my brain.  I finally decided to take on this task and share some pictures from my first trip abroad.

It was two weeks in Germany and I went with my German class.  We went to Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber, Garmisch Partenkirchen, Munich, and Dachau. I stayed with a family for five or six days in Bodnegg outside of Ravensburg.  They didn’t have a TV and it was actually kind of exciting not having one.  I actually started reading there.

7 Things to Love about Slovenia

1 . Wine

Slovenia is pretty well known for wine, and while I was there I drank a lot of it.  Most of the places I went the wine was more on the dry side, but it was all so delicious and I wish I was there with some right now.  Not to mention, the wineries and vineyards are all in wonderful locations.

Why Bled Might Be The Coolest Town In Slovenia

We didn’t have much time in Bled, but we got to see the highlights: the island and the castle.  Now that I’m home, I’ve realized there is tons of other awesome stuff to see in the area.  I now know that I definitely need to go back and it makes me a little sad I missed so much, even though I still saw quite a bit.

Predjama Grad, The Castle in the Cave

It sounds a bit like the princess and the pea, but a castle in a cave.  Thats right.  This castle was built in a giant cave in the side of a hill.  I’d say this is a pretty impressive feat for being built in the late 12th or early 13th century.  At one point it was burned but then Erazem moved in, and this is where it gets really exciting.

Today, we are going to have a typical Slovenian meal

This was something we heard almost every day, and it was followed by the same meal, or a general variation of it, every time.  I mentioned on my 10 things I learned in Slovenia list, number one actually, that I don’t like pork and potatoes that much.  While I don’t like them that much, I do still enjoy them, on occasion, not for every meal.  And that’s my rant for the day.

Like everyone when they travel, I learned a few things while I was in Slovenia.  Some about myself, some about the country.  Mostly about myself, but all from great experiences that I would definitely do again.

Slovenia Packing List

So, I have a lot of stuff.  Especially clothes.  This makes packing hard for me because I just want to bring it all.  I come up with too many “What if’s” when I’m packing.  Like way too many.  I tend to go through the list of “Oh, maybe I’ll want to go out one night” or “What if the weather is totally wrong and I need three pairs of pants and a sweatshirt and boots on the Galapagos Islands?!”  These questions make packing hard.
