Climb The Cahal Pech Ruins In San Ignacio, Belize

As I (sort of ) promised, I’m sharing more of my little time in Belize.  I’ll start with Cahal Pech, the ruins right outside of, or still part of, San Ignacio.  These are smaller and seemed much less traveled than most other ruins I had heard about up to this point.

Luckily for me, they were within walking distance from the hostel in town.  I was prepared for a casual walk, not three huge, steady hills.  Good news, I survived.  One thing I loved about it was that we could still climb them and look around from the top.  Safe?  Eh.  Super cool?  Yeah.

You Better Belize It!

Ok, sorry, I had to.  How could you not, that’s the perfect opportunity.  I haven’t said much about Belize on here, but I think it’s because I don’t have that many pictures from there.  I don’t think that makes sense, but here I am, writing about Belize.  It’s not that I didn’t like it, I did.  It was like driving through Jurassic Park. While I … Continue reading You Better Belize It!

When I first decided to go to the Corn Islands, I was pretty excited for the journey there.  It was supposed to be a crazy adventure of a night bus into the terrifying little town where the panga leaves from followed by a just as terrifying night in Bluefields.  Rumor had it white lobster washed up all the time.  I didn’t get to see any though.  Darn.

Daydreaming of the Corn Islands

The Corn Islands in Nicaragua were one of my favorite parts of my trip.  Definitely my highlight of Nicaragua.  Little Corn Island was just the perfect little place.  All of the backpackers that went there described it as a holiday in a holiday.  That’s pretty accurate.

I think I’ve mentioned before that I don’t like water activities that much, so an island might not seem like my first choice, but I would go back in a heartbeat, even if I had to do it by land and sea again.  It was a week of laying around, drinking coffee, and reading with the occasional dip in the ocean.

Looking to hike Pacaya Volcano in Antigua?

One thing I knew I wanted to do before I left was climb a volcano, specifically Pacaya in Guatemala, mostly because that was the only one I knew about.

Nicaragua Close Up + Tips For Visiting

One of my favorite types of photography is macro photography, the really close-ups where you can’t even tell what you’re looking at.  It gets you thinking and your imagination going, which I enjoy.  This means when I come back from a trip, the majority of my pictures are not easily identifiable.  They could just be part of a wall or something on the ground, not even the monument I was at.

48 Hours on Isla de Ometepe in Nicaragua

I arrived on Ometepe on my own, but quickly befriended some Australians at my hotel.  I didn’t find Ometepe to be the best place to be alone since everything is so spread out.  It’s a good place for company.  The first full day I had was spent laying around the hotel lobby because it was too darn hot to really go do anything.  I eventually went to get lunch and wander a bit, but Moyogalpa is pretty small and I covered most of it pretty quickly.

Puerto Viejo To Bocas del Toro: Is It Worth It For Just A Couple Of Days?

My original plan for visiting Central America was to fly into Cancun and out of Panama City, then I realized it was cheaper to fly out of Costa Rica, so that’s what I did.  But it came down the end of my trip and I was in Puerto Viejo with my new friend who was going to Bocas del Toro in Panama.  It sounded fun and I had a few days left with no plan so it was settled.  I was going from Puerto Viejo to Bocas del Toro for a few days (72 whole hours) before I flew home.
